Internet marketing professionals and content writers often use Facebook as a platform for marketing and communications. This internationally popular website with millions of users is one of the most-visited on the internet, from the occasional user who logs in a few times a week to the Facebook addicts who just can’t get enough of social media.
Recently, a number of blogs and websites have posted a story claiming that Facebook is about to start charging users for access. According to these claims, the website will be introducing three tiers of membership with different functionality available to each tier. Many Facebook users may be shocked or disappointed at these claims, and the website has gone to great lengths to deny them.

If you are involved in internet marketing, be it web design, article writing, or any step in the marketing process you may be aware of the recent changes Google has made to its search ranking algorithms.
If you’re concerned that these changes will affect the rankings of the websites you design, manage or market, you will need an SEO strategy that is able to change with the times. Like so many things in life, a strategy based on strong fundamentals is most likely to stand the test of time.

Creative Commons is an alternative to traditional copyright rules. Commonly, most original works are protected by copyright, which reflects specific rights regarding the use and the distribution of work. Creative Commons allows copyright owners to release some of those rights while keeping others, with the goal of allowing access to and sharing of intellectual and creative property. Copyright has been an all-or-nothing plan: a work is either in the public domain, or its owner states “all rights reserved”. The term or period of copyright protection for most has increased significantly, from 14 years to 70 years past the death of the work’s creator. The creators of Creative Commons wanted to start a central ground of “some rights reserved” that respects intellectual property while growing the acceptable uses of protected material. All licenses need acknowledgement, and the slightest limiting only needs attribution.

Earlier this year many sites experienced a serious drop in ranking when Google rolled out a new Algorithm dubbed Google Panda 2.2. Panda is just one of about 500 algorithmic search tweaks Google makes each year. One thing Google addressed with Panda 2.2 is the issue of scraper sites – websites that republish other people's content on their own site, usually making money from Google AdSense in the process – outranking content originators. The whole aim of Google updating their algorithms and creating new ones when a new problem on the web arises, is to make sure that you get what you are searching for. There is a flip-side to this coin too – in making sure that people only get the highest quality results for their search query, Google is forcing websites to conform to good web design and marketing practices. This means that there are no shortcuts to making sure your site ranks well on search results, you just have to go through the motions, namely:

Yes, there really is a difference between copywriting and copyright. I am a writer, and I write copy; thus, I am a copywriter. Copy is a form of expression that promotes a person, business, opinion or idea. In addition to promotion, copy is written to raise awareness, to educate or to persuade.

The thing with seeing new clients is that so often I see what seems like fear crossing their faces when I launch into trying to explain why content is so important in terms of marketing your website. I think this fear is related to the big and mostly strange words I have to use, and most of the time it is fear of the internet in general – especially to those who are not all that familiar with all things online.

Have you ever wondered what rights you have as a consumer? Consumers are defined as private individuals, members of a consumer interest group, people acting in the public interest and people acting on behalf of others who are incapacitated. The definition does not include the government, though it may cover certain types of businesses. If you are a consumer, it is important that you know your rights.

On January 19th a new alliance was signed into existence which will change the copywriting industry, amongst others, forever. The Alliance of Language and Media Practitioners (LAMP) is the result of months of discussions between the Professional Editors Group (PEG), the South African Translators Institute (SATI), the Writers’ Guild of SA (WGSA) and the South African Freelancers’ Association (SAFREA) – to join forces officially to support and publicize the rights, talents and general recognition of language and media practitioners.

When it comes to online marketing, one of the easiest ways to rank within Google is to have continuously updating, relevant content on your site – a blog will help you achieve just that. Of course just installing a blog and then sitting back will also not help, the original content needs to be coming from somewhere and an RSS Feed is not enough for Google.
